In March I had the opportunity to stay at All-Star Movies for an adult girls only trip to WDW before the pandemic. In September I stayed at Pop Century. This blog gives you my thoughts on both hotels.
Are you a fan of Disney movies? Then All-Star Movies may be the choice for you. Larger than life theming makes this resort very eye-catching for both children and adults alike. We chose a preferred room to be closer to the transportation. Due to this choice, we were not more than a 5 minute walk from the bus station. A preferred room costs a bit extra, but so worth it after you have been on your feet all day. Pop Century is based upon the decades fads of the 1950’s-1990’s. This resort also has larger than life theming like a giant yo-yo and bowling pins.
Rooms at both resorts had two beds, one being a Murphy bed that can be pushed up into the wall to make extra space in the room. I chose the Murphy bed both times, because it is literally one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in. The room is a bit smaller than at the moderate and deluxe resorts, but fits our needs perfectly. The sink/vanity is on the outside which makes it very convenient for one person to shower and one person to get ready.
We didn’t swim on either trip, but the pool at All-Star Movies features Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia. There is also a hockey rink-styled pool. At Pop Century there are three pools, The Hippy Dippy pool which is 60’s themed, a 50’s themed pool based upon a bowling theme and the 90’s computer pool.
At All-Star Movies we didn’t get a chance to eat at the food court, but walked around it and there really was an option for everyone. The gift shop was one of our favorites on property and the lobby had the most amazing fresh smell every time we walked through it.
Pop Century also has a food court, since we were there during COVID requirements you had to order your food via mobile app. Once your food was ordered you showed the cast member your order was ready and then they let you enter. This was to keep capacity to a minimum.
The only transportation at All-Star Movies is the bus. We had no issues with the bus service. One morning the bus driver even gave us a Mickey sticker to welcome us on the bus. It was a nice friendly welcome. We never waited more than 10-15 minutes to be picked up.
Transportation at Pop Century includes the bus and the sky liner. The sky liner is a game changer on Disney property. From Pop Century you must take the sky liner to the Caribbean Beach resort. There you transfer to Hollywood Studios or Epcot. It is a quick and efficient way to get around Disney property and I love it!
In March for the girls trip, my friend who I traveled with is used to staying at Deluxe Resorts at Disney so I wasn’t sure if she would like a value resort. We both ended up loving it and it was perfect for the type of trip we were on, which was maximizing our time in the parks. In September, I traveled with my Mom and Pop Century was perfect for us, due to access to the sky liner.
Both resorts are great in different ways, as all the hotels on property. Maybe someday YOU can try both!
